Recording Hammond B3 - How To Record a Hammond B3 Organ with Leslie Cabinet - Microphone Techniques

Recording Hammond B3 - How To Record a Hammond B3 Organ with Leslie Cabinet - Microphone Techniques: "For live sound use, a Shure SM57 (or preferably, a Beta 57 with the high-mid peak) will sound just fine. For the low tone rotor, you'll want a microphone that can really handle low-frequencies best. Your ideal options are something similar to the Sennheiser E602 or AKG D112. In a pinch, a Shure SM57 will work, but it's preferred you try one of the other mics if possible."

Recording Hammond B3 - How To Record a Hammond B3 Organ with Leslie Cabinet - Microphone Techniques

Recording Hammond B3 - How To Record a Hammond B3 Organ with Leslie Cabinet - Microphone Techniques: "Hammond B3 Organ with Leslie Tone Cabinet Recording a Hammond B3 One of the most unique instruments you can find is the Hammond B3 organ. No matter how sophisticated software synth becomes, you just can't find a good replacement for the gritty, intense sound of a good Hammond B3 with Leslie tone cabinet. In this tutorial, let's look at the best methods for recording a Hammond B3 with Leslie cabinet. Microphone Selection As diverse as the Hammond B3 is, microphone selection is a little trickier. On the Leslie tone cabinet, you've got two distinct rotor sections - the high tone and low tone. The rotors work together to produce the overall sound of the B3. For the high tone, you should consider micing in stereo if you have the resources to do so. Good microphones for this includes the Sennheiser MD421, AKG C480, or any other good small-diaphragm condenser microphone. "

eBay.co.uk Guides - USEFUL TIPS ON HAMMOND TONEWHEEL ORGANS

eBay.co.uk Guides - USEFUL TIPS ON HAMMOND TONEWHEEL ORGANS: "Myths exploded Hammond A100, B3,C3 & RT3 Hammond organs, all have the same type of generator & keyboard assemblies. The only difference between them being that early type with the squarer cabinet with protruding edges around the top, use rectangular section busbars (contact rails) with palladium wire contact areas, & the later models with no wood overhanging & a rounded lid (which cracks easily) used round section gold-plated busbars. the latter are more prone to bad key contact, but on old Hammonds, the palladium wire often comes unfixed from the bus rail & causes problems. either way the use of silicon grease is definitely not a good idea, as after a while it picks up dust & becomes very grimy. MISCELLANEOUS HINTS & TIPS FOR HAMMOND ORGAN OWNERS GENERATOR OIL & OILING DO NOT OVER OIL THE GENERATOR & MOTORIF YOU DO, THE OIL CREEPS INTO THE SCANNER (ON THE END OF THE MOTOR) & CONTAMINATES THE CARBON CONDUCTOR, WHICH CAUSES CRACKLY VIBRATO NOISES. THE CARBON DISC WILL EVENTUALLY DETERIORATE & DISAPPEAR ALTOGETHER INTO BITS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SCANNER HOUSING. FINDING A REPLACEMENT COULD PROVE DIFFICULT. IT IS A CARBON DISC WITH A HOLE DRILLED IN IT, SO I SUPPOSE IT'S POSSIBLE TO IMPROVISE BY MACHINING A BIT OF AN INDUSTRIAL MOTOR BRUSH & DRILLING IT, BUT I'D RATHER NOT. "
